Advocacy

  • A tip from the NATA Government Affairs Department for August: It’s hot! Now is a great time to remind legislators why ATs, who know how to properly treat heat exhaustion, are needed. Make a call or email them. For more advocacy tips and information, visit the NATA advocacy webpage.
  • In the August/September NATA News, the At Your Own Risk Value of the Athletic Trainer Series focuses on junior colleges. This series highlights the important work ATs do in their respective setting.

Engagement

  • The August/September NATA News’ featured article looks back on the 2021 NATA Virtual Clinical Symposia & AT Expo. The article highlights members who participated in the virtual platform’s photo booth as well as 10 things not to miss during VNATA 2021, 10 statistics from VNATA 2021 and 10 members share their takeaways.
  • The monthly Built for This article series in the August/September NATA News features David Silverstein, MEd, ATC, an AT who saved a Shaw High School in Cleveland, Ohio, athlete from sudden cardiac arrest. Silverstein used his Domain Three skills, immediate and emergency action, to jump into action. Reach more about his quick thinking and importance of emergency action plans in the magazine.
  • The Journal of Athletic Training hosts the multiple podcasts that highlight articles from the Journal of Athletic Training. In August, the JATCast will have Luke Donovan, PhD, ATC, summarize two articles from the Journal of Athletic Training issue, which focuses on NCAA injury epidemiology. Development

  • The 2021 NATA Virtual Clinical Symposia & AT Expo continues through Sept. 30, giving attendees the opportunity to earn up to 25 CEUs in total, including 7.5 EBP CEUs, by viewing the on-demand content. Along with the more than 70 exclusive educational sessions available on-demand, the AT Expo and the platform’s numerous networking features remain accessible to attendees. Register now to ensure you have time to view all the sessions you want at your own pace before the content becomes unavailable.
  • The NATA Research & Education Foundation is calling for applicants for the Professional Research Grants Program. Pre-proposal applications open Aug. 1 and close Sept. 1. The NATA Foundation requires investigators interested in submitting a professional grant application (General, New Investigator, LGBTQ+ RFP categories) to the NATA Foundation to first submit a pre-proposal. The purpose of the pre-proposal is to optimize the time invested by investigators and by the NATA Foundation Research Committee in writing and reviewing grant proposals, respectively.   • The NATA Professional Education Committee is hosting a chat opportunity at noon CDT Aug. 4 for clinical education coordinators to discuss preceptor development. Join moderators Ashley Thrasher, EdD, LAT, ATC, and Patrick St. Louis, EdD, LAT, ATC, as they discuss ways to develop preceptors in immersive clinical experiences. Registration is open now.
  • Development, training and preparation of future leaders are important parts of any association’s longevity. NATA offers online leadership courses to encourage association leaders to hone their skills. The Leadership Development Certificate application is open to all NATA members who are and remain in good standing, have a National Provider Identifier and receive their state and district leadership's approval.
