Gretchen Schlabach, PhD, ATC
Bio: 
Dr. Schlabach’s early career began at Ole Miss where she served as head women’s athletic trainer for 8 years before transitioning to the University of Maryland to complete her doctoral work in exercise physiology. She accepted the program directorship at Northern Illinois University (NIU) where she developed and directed the academic professional education program and retired in 2014. Dr. Schlabach’s professional scholarship and service has been in the area of professional ethics and values in athletic training. With Dr. Kimberly Peer she published the first text dedicated solely to professional ethics, Professional Ethics in Athletic Training. Dr. Schlabach is recognized with the professor emerita distinction from Northern Illinois University (2014) and the NATA Athletic Training Service and Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Awards, as well as, Gail Weldon Award of Excellence. Currently she is the founding chair of the NATA Professional Responsibility in Athletic Training (PRAT) Committee, which is dedicated to adherence and professional development of legal, ethical, and regulatory (LER) issues in athletic training.

Timothy Neal, MS, ATC, CCISM
Bio: 
Timothy Neal is a certified athletic trainer, a National Athletic Trainers’ Association Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer, and is the program director of athletic training education at Concordia University Ann Arbor. From 1979 to 2014, Mr. Neal was on the sports medicine staff at Syracuse University, serving the last 14 years as assistant director of athletics for sports medicine. Mr. Neal is the president of TLN Consulting, his sports medicine consulting business. Mr. Neal has chaired two NATA sponsored Inter-Association Consensus Statement on psychological concerns in student-athletes, the first one on college athletes in 2013, followed by another Statement in 2015 for interscholastic athletes. Mr. Neal was a member of the writing group for the 2014 NATA Position Statement: Preparticipation Physical Examinations and Medically Disqualifying Conditions. Mr. Neal is a member of the NCAA task force on student-athlete mental health and wellness, and is the NATA liaison to Mental Health America. Mr. Neal is a member of the NATA ATs Care Committee, Professional Responsibility in Athletic Training (PRAT) Committee, and is presently the chair of the NATA Committee on Professional Ethics (COPE). Mr. Neal authored the revised NATA Code of Ethics in 2016, and authored the Code of Ethics for the NATA ATs Care program. Mr. Neal serves on the NATA Athletic Training Education Journal editorial board. Mr. Neal earned his Master’s degree from Syracuse University, and his Bachelor’s degree from Ohio University, and serves on the Ohio Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Abstract: 

Recently, the high-profile case involving boundary crossing and sexual misconduct has had far-reaching affects. In the aftermath, we remind ourselves of the importance of maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. This webinar will examine the appropriate professional relationship, boundary crossing, and the legal, ethical, regulatory (LER) issues tied with boundary violations and sexual misconduct.
