Gen Med Series: Treatment of Common Skin Conditions in Sports
This course builds on Gen Med Series: Common Dermatological Conditions in Athletes and focuses on effective treatment strategies for athletes. Participants will learn evidence-based treatment regimens for common dermatologic issues encountered in sports settings, recognize potential complications that require physician involvement and understand how treatment guidelines may vary depending on the sport. This course equips athletic trainers and clinicians with practical approaches to safely manage and support athletes with skin conditions.
Make It Work: Demystifying Wearable Technology in Lower Extremity Rehabilitation
Over the last decade, wearable technology has become an integral part of training and recovery among recreational and elite athletes. However, integration of technology into the rehabilitative process has lagged behind societal trends due to barriers such as the overwhelming variety of technologies on the market, a lack of understanding regarding the best uses of different wearable types and challenges in effectively interpreting data obtained from wearable sensors. The purposes of this course are to provide a summary of the state of play in commercially available wearable sensors and to highlight several evidence-based used cases for wearable technologies in rehabilitation of lower extremity injuries.
Concussion in Youth Football: What We Know, What We Can Do and How to Protect Young Athletes
Concussion is one of the most common injuries in youth football, yet it is often misunderstood, underreported, and inadequately managed. Young athletes’ developing brains may be especially vulnerable to the short- and long-term effects of concussion, making education and prevention critical. In this webinar, hosted by the Brain Injury Association of America and NATA, in collaboration with experts from Indiana University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, participants will explore the current science of concussion in youth football. Dana Waltzman, PhD, and Johna Register-Mihalik, PhD, LAT, ATC, will cover risk factors, signs and symptoms, recovery considerations and evidence-based strategies to reduce injury and support safe return to play and learning. The webinar will also address the role of parents, coaches, schools and health care providers in creating safer environments for young athletes.
Crossing the AT Student Educational Rubicon: Artificial Intelligence for Improved Clinical Confidence
There is a notable absence of artificial intelligence education and implementation for athletic trainers and athletic training students. Both populations would benefit from improved AI literacy to improve the quality of their education and clinical decision-making. This course will provide enhanced understanding of AI model assessment for bias and stigma mitigation, educational implementation and research evaluation and ethical application of AI as a generative tool in education. Additionally, a goal of the course will be to provide the learner with an understanding of how to mitigate concerns around using AI tools and its compliance with both HIPAA and FERPA.
