State Advocacy

State Government Affairs

Through sustained advocacy and collaboration with state leaders and stakeholders, NATA continues to actively support athletic training legislation at the state level to ensure that regulatory frameworks accurately reflect the extensive education and skillset of athletic trainers. The athletic training profession is licensed or otherwise regulated in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, underscoring its recognized role within the health care system. These efforts are especially critical in the context of ongoing health care reform, where evolving delivery models and patient needs require practice acts that enable ATs to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.

AT Compact: Advancing Athletic Trainer Practice Across State Lines

The Athletic Trainer Compact is a legislatively enacted contract among states providing an efficient process for licensed athletic trainers to establish multistate practice. Through the compact, an athletic trainer licensed in a compact member state can quickly and easily add “privileges to practice” in the other compact member states without having to go through each state’s initial license or reciprocity application process. Legislative Alert Center

Please visit the NATA Legislative Alert Center to contact your state and federal legislators on issues important to the athletic training profession. Grassroots efforts with your local members of Congress are one of the most effective ways to help us gain more cosponsors for federal legislation. It only takes five minutes to learn the issues and send a letter to Congress.

State Leadership Forum

Organized by the State Association Advisory Committee, the invitation-only State Leadership Forum is conducted annually during the NATA Clinical Symposia & AT Expo.
