In honor of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month in May, NATA Now is highlighting some of our Asian American and Pacific Islander leaders at the state, district and national levels.
While getting treatment for her college sports injury, Zeny Eakins, ATC, CAA, developed an undying passion for athletic training.
“I was in the athletic training [facility] so much that I was able to observe the daily interactions the athletic trainer had with a variety of athletes,” Eakins said.

Chuck Kimmel’s contributions as an educator and NATA president have left a profound impact on the athletic training profession.
Through his leadership, he inspired countless students, advocating for their growth and development while promoting the importance of the profession across the nation.
In 2024, the NATA Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee announced the creation of four national awards, in addition to its existing Bill Chisolm Professional Service Award for athletic trainers who are NATA members nominated in good standing and non-NATA members. Candidates aren’t required to be a member of an underrepresented ethnically diverse population.
