Correction to Presidential Candidate Q&A

NATA News CORRECTION: An error was printed on page 19 of the March NATA News. The text within Katie Walsh Flanagan’s Presidential Candidate Q&A should have read, “We have to begin to require that athletic trainers work with a physician as a supervisor, not under a coach, AD or non-medical person.” We sincerely apologize for this error.

Tune In: NATA President Testifies Before Senate

NATA President Tory Lindley, MA, ATC, will testify before the U.S. Senate at 10 a.m. EST/9 a.m. CST Feb. 5 in Washington, D.C., to advocate for increased investment in athlete safety. Lindley has been called as a witness to testify during the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation hearing, “Athlete Safety and the Integrity of U.S. Sport.” The hearing will be livestreamed.

During the NATA Joint Committee Meeting, the Presidential Nominating Committee, comprised of two representatives per NATA District, convened Jan. 25 to select the final two candidates for the next NATA president. The final two candidates are Kathy Dieringer, EdD, LAT, ATC, and Katie Walsh Flanagan, EdD, LAT, ATC.

New SCA Handout Available

As part of NATA’s coverage during American Heart Month in February, the February NATA News features a new infographic handout on sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). The handout includes a checklist to prepare for and prevent SCA, treat SCA and return to play, in addition to SCA fast facts and symptoms to look for in athletes who might be experiencing SCA.

District Four Subdivides Into Two

During the NATA board meeting Jan. 26, the Board of Directors voted to approve a proposal to subdivide the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association (District Four) into two districts, District Four and District Eleven. This change will go into effect Jan. 1, 2021.
