Everyone comes from different experiences, backgrounds and cultures, and it is the duty of athletic trainers and all health care providers to be aware of how these differences can affect patient care.

NATA President Tory Lindley, MA, ATC, testified before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation Feb. 5 in Washington, D.C., on the topic of “Athletic Safety and the Integrity of U.S. Sport.” Testifying along with Lindley was Ju’Riese Colón, CEO of U.S.

NATA President Tory Lindley, MA, ATC, will testify before the U.S. Senate at 10 a.m. EST/9 a.m. CST Feb. 5 in Washington, D.C., to advocate for increased investment in athlete safety. Lindley has been called as a witness to testify during the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation hearing, “Athlete Safety and the Integrity of U.S. Sport.” The hearing will be livestreamed.

The Super Bowl: It’s a high stakes game with pressure on both sides. After a nearly five-month season, Super Bowl LIV is upon us as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers Feb. 2 in Miami.

During the NATA Joint Committee Meeting, the Presidential Nominating Committee, comprised of two representatives per NATA District, convened Jan. 25 to select the final two candidates for the next NATA president. The final two candidates are Kathy Dieringer, EdD, LAT, ATC, and Katie Walsh Flanagan, EdD, LAT, ATC.

As part of NATA’s coverage during American Heart Month in February, the February NATA News features a new infographic handout on sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). The handout includes a checklist to prepare for and prevent SCA, treat SCA and return to play, in addition to SCA fast facts and symptoms to look for in athletes who might be experiencing SCA.

During the NATA board meeting Jan. 26, the Board of Directors voted to approve a proposal to subdivide the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association (District Four) into two districts, District Four and District Eleven. This change will go into effect Jan. 1, 2021.
