Ten years ago, Mike Prybicien, LAT, ATC, CES, shared with NATA News and NATA Now readers how his background in athletic training helped his family navigate his son Aiden’s diabetes diagnosis.
During the 76th NATA Clinical Symposia & AT Expo in Orlando, a now 16-year-old Aiden joined his father to help educate other athletic trainers about caring for those with diabetes during the “Managing the Diabetic Physically Active Patient” Learning Lab June 27.

NATA, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) hosted a three-part virtual educational event to help parents, guardians and community leaders make informed decisions about sports participation during the pandemic. The discussions featured leading medical experts in pediatrics, sports medicine and athletic training on the state of safety in sport and COVID-19.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, athletic trainers have stepped up to help their communities and local health care systems in multiple ways, including screening, telemedicine and infrastructure. ATs Prone COVID-19 Patients in ICU
Athletic trainers have found themselves in unique positions during the COVID-19 pandemic. They have been able to work alongside other health care professionals assisting in a variety of capacities. Whether checking temperatures, testing possible coronavirus-positive people or integrating telehealth, ATs have proved their value.

A Look at the Presidential Election Process

As chair of the NATA Presidential Election Procedures Workgroup, I am excited to report that 24.9 percentage of eligible members voted in this year’s NATA presidential election, compared to 21.9 percent during the 2017 election.
NATA Announces New President-Elect
The results of the NATA 2020 presidential election are in – Kathy Dieringer, EdD, LAT, ATC, is NATA’s new president-elect.
“Thank you to the members of NATA for your faith in me as the next NATA president,” Dieringer said. “I am thrilled to be chosen to lead our incredible profession throughout the next few years, and rest assured I will hit the ground running. While we have a few immediate challenges ahead of us, I am ready to tackle any issue to improve the lives of our members. Together, we will!”
