Guidelines for Proposal Submission: Interactive Lecture (IL)

Thank you for your interest in submitting an Interactive Lecture (IL) Session proposal, we welcome your submission!

The Convention Program Committee (CPC) typically receives more than 200 proposal submissions each year, exceeding what can be accommodated in the program. To ensure the integrity and balance of the educational program, each proposal undergoes a rigorous review process, resulting in an acceptance rate from those submissions of approximately 50%. The CPC review process involves three tiers:

  1. A blind review by 10-15 peer athletic trainers
  2. A blind review by CPC members
  3. An open CPC discussion

General Description of IL

  • A lecture in which the presenter uses engagement triggers to engage the attendees with the presented material.
  • Examples of engagement triggers:
    • Video(s) (Creative Commons-licensed media can be used with proper attribution. Look for licenses that allow commercial use and modification. YouTube videos may only be used with clear Creative Commons license or if you have obtained written permission from the creator).
    • Demonstration by presenter or involving attendee(s)
    • Attendee(s) participate in activity as individuals or groups
    • Small group/cluster discussion
    • Question and answer quizzing

Format & Audience

  • IL Sessions are 55 minutes long and include presentations from one or two speakers
  • IL sessions usually end with a formal question-and-answer period. However, quizzing or questioning may be embedded throughout the presentation and used as an engagement trigger.
  • Attendance is determined by room capacity and typically ranges between 200-3000 attendees

Important Guidelines

  • IL presenters must disclose any potential conflicts of interest or affiliations with a commercial product or service at the beginning of the presentation.
  • IL Sessions will be scheduled over all three days of the Annual Meeting.
    • Speakers must be available for scheduling on any of the three days of programming.
  • The individual submitting the proposal must have confirmed the presentation with all speakers before submission.
  • IL Sessions will be selected based on the organization of the program, quality of content and speakers, feedback from the review team and CPC, and significance of the material to the NATA membership.
