In 2021, the NATA Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access Task Force was introduced and charged with bringing the association’s six DEIA commitments to life. This year, in order to continue this work well into the future, the NATA Board of Directors approved the formation of the NATA DEIA Council.

Hot Topics in the PDC

The NATA Professional Development Center (PDC) offers seminal courses relating to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEIA), health disparities, social determinants of health (SDOH) and the role of the athletic trainer. Other courses present the topic of sports science and more. The courses include:

In honor of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month in May, the NATA Now blog is highlighting some of our Asian American and Pacific Islander leaders at the state, district and national levels.

Ruemruk Malasarn, MA, ATC, fell in love with the athletic training profession and its work environment, while taking an introduction to athletic training course and interning as a California State Polytechnic University Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) undergraduate student, he said.

NATA Enters Next Phase of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access Plan

Over the past several months, the NATA Board of Directors, along with at-large appointments from the NATA Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee, has worked with a DEI consultant in association management to develop and align around organizational commitments. These guiding principles provide a foundation for enhanced infusion of diversity, equity, inclusion and access throughout our organization.
