Editor’s note: In honor of Mental Health Month, NATA is conducting a weekly mental health blog series throughout May to examine different facets of this topic and how they impact athletic trainers and their patients.

Uncertainty, change of schedules, distance learning, limited activity – the after-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic can put a strain on mental health, especially for student athletes who might now be at home without sports or in-person classes.

For 70 years, the NATA Clinical Symposia & AT Expo has offered continuing education by the best and brightest in our field; facilitated networking between athletic trainers from all around the globe; and celebrated athletic training leaders who have exuded a lifelong commitment to our profession through the national honors and awards ceremony.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, athletic trainers have stepped up to help their local health care systems in multiple ways, including screening, telemedicine and infrastructure. NATA will share what athletic trainers everywhere are doing to care for their patients, communities and themselves during this time.

NATA is happy to announce that Tamesha Logan has been named the association’s new associate executive director (AED). Logan has served as director of the NATA Marketing and Public Relations Department since 2014.

As NATA’s associate executive director, Logan will continue to advocate for and promote the athletic training profession. She will lead and oversee strategic initiatives as well as several departments, including Membership and Business Development, Marketing and Public Relations and Knowledge Initiatives.

Between an overall more sedentary lifestyle because of quarantine and the stress that surrounds COVID-19, nutrition can sometimes take a backseat – and with it an athlete’s performance, which heavily depends on good nutrition. In the April NATA News, p. 20 featured Valerie Herzog, EdD, LAT, ATC, Department of Athletic Training chair at Weber State University and Anthony Breitbach, PhD, ATC, athletic training program director at Saint Louis University, who encourage and support international students at their institutions. Across the country, though, there are other athletic training programs doing the same.
