Established in 2005, the NATA Political Action Committee (NATAPAC) has been the voice of the athletic training profession, seeking better working conditions, fair access and the right to practice for all athletic trainers across America. As a federal group, the NATAPAC provides campaign contributions to approved candidates on behalf of NATA. Nonpartisan, the NATAPAC gives primarily to candidates for the U.S. Senate or U.S. House of Representatives whose view support the advancement of the athletic training profession.

In the February NATA News, the monthly Built for This article, which highlights the domains of athletic training, featured two ATs who sprang into action during emergencies to save lives (read more on p. 20 of the issue). Thanks to Domain Three, immediate and emergency care, ATs are able to face lifesaving situations at a moment’s notice.

In honor of Black History Month, NATA is conducting a weekly blog series throughout February that showcases Black athletic trainers who work with elite patient populations. This blog highlights James Pierre-Glaude, DPT, ATC, CSCS, who works with the men’s U.S. Amputee Soccer Team.

The 2021 recipients of the LGBTQ+ Award for Inclusive Excellence are Patricia Aronson, PhD, LAT, ATC, and Lindsy McLean, AT Ret.

There is a lot happening at NATA! Stay up to date on what’s to come each month in advocacy, engagement and development in this NATA Now blog series. Check out what else is in store for February, and follow our communication channels throughout the month for more information!

The January NATA Timely Topics Series, moderator Donita Valentine, DAT, ATC, SFMA, will center on self-care and work-life balance strategies for the AT.

The NATA Timely Topics Series provides members with an engaging, high-level introductory conversation about a hot topic in athletic training. Each event will give attendees the chance to connect in real-time to thought leaders who have anecdotal success within these areas of interest as well as access to a library of related resources.

As unpredictable as the last nine months of the COVID-19 pandemic have been for everyone, athletic trainers are uniquely trained to handle the unexpected. Some outreach athletic trainers deployed to the front lines in non-traditional roles, such as coronavirus screeners, became some of the first recommended groups to train and administer the COVID-19 vaccine, and to receive it.

In the December NATA News, our annual report, we look back at what has taken place at NATA and within the athletic training profession in 2020. While this has been an unprecedented year, NATA is thankful for the support we’ve received from our dedicated members, collaborators and contributors, including our sponsors.
