I have been an athletic trainer for 15 years in the secondary school setting. I am the director of the Sports Medicine Program for Bentonville High School in Bentonville AR and have been there for almost 7 years now. I picked up my bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Missouri State University in 1998 and then finished my Master’s degree in counseling from Northeastern State University in Broken-Arrow on 2005. Currently, I serve as the SWATA SSATC chair as well as the AR SSATC chair. I honestly believe the secondary school setting is the best kept secret in the field. I love working with high school kids both on the field and in the classroom and thank God every day for the opportunities I’ve been given to do the job I do. This is an exciting time to be a part of the Secondary School Athletic Training committee and I look forward to being a part of the wave of change that the future is blowing our way!

Christopher Dean, ATC
My name is Christopher Dean, and I have been a Certified Athletic Trainer since 1996. I first began my journey into Athletic Training as a freshman at Lathrop High School. Lathrop had a small but very dedicated Student Athletic Trainer program that provided the experience and foundation to help me transition into a collegiate Student Athletic Trainer Program at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. I was one of the final students in UAF internship program to complete the program and obtain certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer. Following graduation, I began working as a Physician Extender with our Team Physician. While serving in this role, I also worked as a volunteer Athletic Trainer at the University of Alaska, 3 area High Schools, with the Junior A hockey team, the summer league baseball team and numerous community cultural and athletic events. In 2002, I assumed the role of Head Athletic Trainer at Lathrop High School, coming full circle with where I had begun my journey many years prior. I serve as the Secondary Schools Athletic Trainer Committee representative for the State of Alaska as well as the Northwest Athletic Trainers Association (District 10) representative to the National Secondary Schools Athletic Trainer Committee.
