Athletic Trainer in Wisconsin for over 27 years and have spent the last 20 years at Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage, WI in the Rehabilitation Department. Began practicing autonomously as an athletic trainer in 2002, performing evaluation and treatment of rehabilitation patients in the clinical setting, while receiving third party reimbursement. I also provided outreach services to local high schools. Currently function as a Rehabilitation Supervisor, overseeing outpatient, inpatient and skilled nursing facilities at Divine Savior Healthcare. Developed the role of the autonomous clinical athletic trainer at Divine Savior Healthcare, including mentoring programs and competencies for the clinical setting. Divine Savior Healthcare now has 7 athletic trainers, 5 who are practicing autonomously in the rehabilitation setting, performing the evaluation, treatment and billing of athletic training rehabilitation services while receiving reimbursement from third party payors. I work with the NATA to advocate for the profession of athletic training to further advance third party reimbursement as an independent consultant through OrthoVise, with Joe Greene and his team.

The key to excellent documentation is the ability to know what is relevant to document.  This presentation will cover the essentials of good documentation.  It will address the medical necessity, common documentation errors, and the requirements needed for optimal reimbursement.  It outlines the types of clinical documentation that payors require and gives a high level understanding of documentation and billing of services. CMS documentation guidelines will be referenced.

This presentation and webinar is designed to education athletic trainers in all settings who seek to obtain reimbursement for their services.
