SSATC/Gatorade Secondary School Service Award

General Information and Criteria

The NATA SSATC Gatorade Service Award was created to annually recognize a certified athletic trainer, at the secondary school level, who has provided outstanding service and dedication to his / her school. This not only focuses on athletic health care but also involvement with the general school community functions.

Criteria for selecting candidates

  1. Candidate must be an active certified athletic trainer in the year of consideration and a member of the NATA.
  2. Must be a certified athletic trainer in the secondary schools for a minimum of 5 calendar years and up to but not including 15 years.
  3. Must display exemplary commitment to athletic training in the secondary school setting and promotion of the profession at that level. Consideration given to the following:
    1. secondary school athletic training experience
    2. supervision of athletic training student aides (ATSA’s)
    3. ATSA’s who have gone on to become professionals in any health care field
    4. additional experience: Prom chaperone, Powder Puff Game coverage, Senior Trip chaperone, Staff development instructor (CPR, etc..), develop conditioning programs for teams/students, etc……
  4. Should have a high standard of ethics and integrity. The candidate should have demonstrated high levels of sportsmanship. The committee suggests that the athletic trainer exemplify the highest standards of fair play and conduct, both on and off the field of play.
  5. Contributions to the total student - athlete picture, and be a recognized authority in the school community.
  6. Nominations may be submitted by a student, parent, physician, fellow athletic trainers, recognized athletic training associations, athletic conferences and athletic directors.
  7. All completed nominations must be received by the NATA Secondary School Committee by March 31, 2011. Incomplete Nomination Forms will be deemed ineligible.
  8. The nominee must have letters of recommendation from both the principal and athletic director of the school.
  9. The nominee must have a third letter of recommendation from the team physician, a parent of a student athlete, or a student.

All awards to be presented by the NATA Secondary School Committee, in association with Gatorade, at the Annual NATA Symposia.
