Abstract:

Professional Yoga Therapy leads the way in medical yoga today by providing post-graduate application of medical therapeutic yoga through an evidence based lens.  Our programs cover every system in the human body and treat the whole person by providing a standardized methodology for evaluation, prevention, and management of pathophysiology through education in evidence based CAM modalities, specifically medical therapeutic yoga.

Module 6 builds on the topic of stabilization, motor control, and support and how it affects application of medical therapeutic yoga. Both prevention and pathophysiological application are considered to aide clinicians in diversifying programming for clinical and community/public health settings and improving patient outcomes.  The PYT conceptual model uses the latest evidence base in biomechanics to reframe the alignment principles of yoga postures for increased efficacy and safety in today's clinical practice. PYT specific asana/postures and the foundations for biomechanical alignment of all postures will be discussed and illustrated for use in immediate clinical application.

Medical therapeutic yoga is a unique approach to using yoga and yoga therapy as medicine. PYT, in module 6, allows the clinician to implement immediate care and rehabilitation methods for stress management, improved athletic performance, neuromuscular function, and overall improved quality of life through lumbopelvic and scapulohumeral stabilization principles.

Through the use of PYT principles in medical therapeutic yoga, health care professionals can create and oversee yoga and yoga therapy classes within their own facility, conducted and closely supervised by their own professionally trained staff. Module 6 builds on Modules 1-5, however the clinician has the option of taking the modules out of order. Module 8, the on-site lab companion course offers hands on practice of the tenets of stabilization in the context of “pre-yoga” and yoga postures in an interactive lab setting. In addition, participants will practice evidence based PYT specific yoga postures which address lumbopelvic stabilization and scapulohumeral stabilization in the interactive lab setting of module 8, bringing together all 7 webinar modules and allowing for practical application.
