NATA Announces Science Partnership with
President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports

DALLAS, June 9, 2006 - The National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), representing 30,000 members of the athletic training profession, today announced a science partnership with the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS) to enhance the mission of both organizations in improving the health and physical activity of Americans of all ages and abilities.

“The President’s Council is a highly regarded organization, and our partnership is such a natural,” said NATA President Chuck Kimmel, ATC.  “We share many common goals which focus on keeping individuals active and healthy. Athletic trainers are the only health care providers who are specifically trained to work with physically active people to ensure their fitness activities are safe from injury.”

“We are proud and pleased to enter into this enhanced collaboration with NATA to raise awareness of the benefits of physical activity and fitness and increase the adoption and maintenance of a physically active lifestyle of all Americans,” said President’s Council Executive Director Melissa Johnson.

The groups will work together on development and dissemination strategies for appropriate NATA position statements (scientifically based, peer reviewed research), based on relevance to PCPFS constituents and topics, with the possibility of partnerships on specific statements of mutual interest.  The President’s Council will have opportunities to work with certified athletic trainers on fitness and sports topics at the NATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium.  As well, the President’s Council can reach NATA members through published articles in NATA News and submit articles to the Journal of Athletic Training for peer review.
