NATA Hall of Fame Inductee for 2004

 

Clint Thompson

 

Clint Thompson graduated from the University of Texas in 1963 and earned a MA from Michigan State University in 1969. He was an assistant athletic trainer for Michigan State from 1964 to 1970 when he was named head athletic trainer at Colorado State University. In 1973 he returned to Michigan State as the Coordinator of Athletic Training and Rehabilitation until 1985 when he became the head athletic trainer at Northeast Missouri State University (subsequently named Truman State University). He was a teacher to athletic training undergrad and grad students for 31 years and was appointed as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Clint added the Program Directorship of a Truman State CAAHEP accredited program in 1999 and retired in 2001 as Instructor Emeritus and Head Athletic Trainer Emeritus. While performing athletic trainer services for the above schools, he was active in the NATA by serving as Editor of the JNATA from 1972 to 1985 subsequently becoming an Editorial Board Member, then Associate Editor until 2003. His 31 years of Journal work was recognized by the creation of the yearly awarded Clint Thompson Award for the Outstanding Non-research Article to appear in the Journal. Other committee service included the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award Subcommittee, District 5 and District 10 representative and Vice President for the NATA Research and Education Foundation. Additional committee work included the NATABOC Role Delineation Bibliography renovation committee study group and NATABOC Test Examiner. Clint is the recipient of the NATA Service Award, the Michigan Hall of Fame and District 5 Hall of Fame awards. Athletic training publications and speaking engagements were a large part of Clint’s professional career, including an extended Australian Sports Medicine Federation sponsored speaking tour in 1984.
