NATA Hall of Fame Inductee for 2000

 

Earlene Durrant

 

Earlene has been Chair of the Department of Physical Education at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, for the past six years. She was Athletic Training Program Director, undergraduate and graduate level, from 1973-1994 and Head Women's Athletic Trainer from 1973-1990.

 

Earlene served on the NATA Board of Directors, District 7 Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers Association from 1989-1992. She was the first woman to be elected as president of the Utah Athletic Trainers Association, where she served from 1989-1992. She served in NATA on the Entry-level Education Committee, Chair of the Graduate Education Review Committee, Educational Council, Sub Committee Chair of Special Recognition Awards, Grants and Scholarship Committee, Chair of the Memorial Resolutions Committee. Earlene developed the Student Athletic Training Program for the Alpine School District and the Provo School District. She developed the Athletic Training Curriculum Program at Brigham Young University. Earlene was the first woman inducted in the RMATA Hall of Fame (1988) and received two Outstanding Service Awards from NATA in 1999. She was co-author of the NATA Outstanding Research Papers, 1997 and 1994. Her development of the Graduate Athletic Training program at Brigham Young University resulted in her being awarded the Wesley P. Lloyd Award for Distinction in Graduate Education in 1997. In 1995 she received the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award from NATA. In 1993 she received the Golden Bull Dog Award from Provo High School for her development of the High School Athletic Training program.

 

Earlene received a bachelor's degree in 1962, master's degree in 1963, and Ed.D. in 1975, all from Brigham Young University. She completed post-doctoral study at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, and the University of Calgary, Canada.
