BOMB THREAT |
Suspicious device found that is thought to be explosive or a communicated warning that bomb has been placed |

Conduct systematic building search looking for suspicious object |
|
|
Do not touch any suspicious package |
|
|
Shut off open flames |
|
|
Leave lights on or off, do not use electronic devices such as cell phones |
|
|

|
|
Evacuate building and call Public Safety @ D21-2200 |
|
Bomb threat caller check list When is the bomb going to explode? Where is it right now? What does it look like? What kind of bomb is it? What will cause it to explode? Did you place the bomb? Why? What is your name? Where do you live? Note any background noises, caller accent, and record information verbatim |

FIRE |
Small fires- no larger than a waste basket, attempt to extinguish with a fire extinguisher. FOR ALL FIRES CALL 9-911 |

For small fires attempt to extinguish with a fire extinguisher |
|
|
Have a co-worker call 9-911 |
|
|
For large fires, evacuate the area |
|
|
Turn off lights, open flames and close the windows and doors - DO NOT LOCK |
|
|
Move to an area 500 ft from the building |
|
Know the location of all fire equipment such as fire extinguishers and pull stations Fire Extinguisher Instructions: Pull the safety pin from the handle Aim nozzle at the base of the fire Squeeze the trigger handle Sweep from side to side Tornado Watch - conditions are favorable for a tornado Tornado Warning - a tornado has been sighted |

SEVERE WEATHER |
Weather conditions that are favorable for a natural disaster |
|
|
Have a weather radio and leave it on at all times |
|
|
When tornado warnings are issued, secure the facility and vacate the premises |
|
|
Identify the safest place to go in the event there is not enough time to vacate the premises |
|
|
Be prepared to instruct spectators and participatnts where to proceed in the event of severe weather. |
|
The following natural disasters are common: Tornados Floods Thunderstorms Winter ice storms |

UTILITY FAILURE |
Electricity failure, gas leak, or water main break |
|
|
Gas leaks - evacuate the building |
|
|
Call physical plant @ 2-7456 or after hours Public Safety @ 2-2200 for any utility failure |
|
Know the location of the gas main cut off and the water main cut off. |
|
VIOLENT OR CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR |
Person threatening violence or bodily harm |
|
|
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO APPREHEND |
|
|
Call 9-911 or Public Safety @ 2-2200 and give a good description of the suspect |
|
|
If you are able, secure the area to confine the suspect until help arrives |
|
Hostage Tips: Avoid drastic actions Follow instructions and stay alive Don't speak unless spoken to. Expect the unexpected Be observant |
