Pre-Conference Career Workshop Sessions

The Committee on Practice Advancement is once again proud to support the Athletic Trainer as Physician Extender Workshops as part of the NATA Clinical Symposia & AT Expo. This event will be held on Tuesday, June 23 and will feature both an introductory track (aimed at athletic trainers who are new to or interested in the setting) and an advanced track (intended for athletic trainers who are experienced in this field).

The Athletic Trainer as a Physician Extender – Introduction
Description
Aims of this workshop include developing an understanding of the role of the AT – physician extender and how athletic trainers functioning in this capacity can establish themselves as a valuable asset within the clinical setting. Attendees will also learn where to find positions within this setting and how to locate available training programs.

Description
Aims of this workshop include developing a deeper understanding of the role of the AT – physician extender and fostering new ideas for advancement of not only an individual position, but for the setting as a whole.

From the Stage to the Pit: A Comprehensive Look at All Participants of the Performing Arts Team
Description
The performing arts workshop will be co-sponsored by our new affiliate organization Athletes and the Arts. Performing Arts workshop attendees will be taking an in-depth look at different members of the performing arts team including dancers, musicians, Drum and Bugle Corp athletes, etc. Attendees will gain a perspective for the special needs and care that these specialized athletes require. Performing Arts Specialists ranging from physicians, ATs and nutritionists from both the NATA and AATA will be presenting on PAMed specific topics. The afternoon session will include a hands-on lab session examining lower extremity injuries of the dancer and specialized needs to musicians and D & B. Attendees should plan appropriate lab clothing for the afternoon.
