National Center for Drug Free Sport Extends Athletic Trainer Continuing Education Awards Deadline

The National Center for Drug Free Sport (Drug Free Sport®), the industry leader in drug education and testing within professional, collegiate and amateur athletics, is pleased to announce that the extension of its continuing education award deadline to Sunday, May 1. In honor of March being National Athletic Training Month (#NATM2016), Drug Free Sport wishes for as many eligible candidates as possible to be aware of the awards.

The Drug Free Sport Fund Continuing Education Award recognizes the significant contributions of athletic trainers to drug abuse prevention and education. Established in 2013, Drug Free Sport has awarded over $20,000 in assistance of athletic trainer continuing education opportunities. “Athletic trainers are on the front lines of drug abuse prevention, serving as advisors, mentors, healers and confidantes to athletes of a variety of experience levels,” said Frank Uryasz, President of Drug Free Sport. “We believe that providing opportunities for their professional development is paramount to ensuring fair and safe sport, and are happy to demonstrate our appreciation and respect for their contributions.”

Certified athletic trainers who are interested in applying for the 2016 awards are encouraged to submit applications through the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation website. Multiple $1,000 nonrenewable awards will be granted, with the total number being dependent on the quality and quantity of applicants. Awards will be announced the week of May 23 and made payable to the employing educational institution or not-for-profit entity and the athletic trainer.
