James Hunt
1958
During his more than 40 years in the athletic training profession, James Hunt made significant contributions to the field. The head athletic trainer at Michigan from 1946 until his retirement recently, Hunt is credited with designing the fiberglass "Michigan Heel Cup," a protective device that has since been duplicated in several different materials by various manufacturers. Hunt also acted as a consultant for designers of facemasks for ice hockey goalies and promoted their use in games as early as 1951. Hunt came to Michigan from the University of Minnesota where he served as athletic trainer from 1942 through 1946. Jim was inducted into the NATA Hall of Fame in 1966 and is now deceased.
