A native of Athens, Alabama, Bill Chambers has been, and continues to be, an active member of the NATA. Since 1965, he has served two terms as NATA President, two terms on the NATA Board of Directors, was chairman of four national meetings and is chairman of the annual NATA District 8 meeting. Bill began his career as a student athletic trainer under Ken Rawlinson at the University of Oklahoma. After four years at Oklahoma, he worked as an assistant athletic trainer for three years at the University of Missouri. In June 1962, he became head athletic trainer at Fullerton Junior College, where remained until his retirement in 1998. Bill has been instrumental in the NATA Foundation student scholarship program bringing in over $1,000,000 in scholarship contributions. Chambers was inducted into the NATA Hall of Fame in 1986.
