NATA EDAC Educates Youth at St. Louis Area Boys and Girls Club

Members of the NATA-Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee made a visit to the Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club Adams Park during their Mid-Year meeting in St. Louis on Friday March 28, 2008 . Paul Alvarez, Elicia Leal and Laurie Rivera made a presentation entitled Certified Athletic Training, to 37 ethnically diverse students and several staff members. In staying true to their motto of Service, Advocacy and Unity EDAC hopes that this outreach opportunity will promote the profession of Athletic Training, provide cultural competence education and increase ethnic diversity among the NATA membership by exposing young adults to the Athletic Training profession. EDAC plans on revisiting the Adams Park Center in June where they will select 12 of it's students to participate in their summer Career Day Activity.

EDAC Career Day is a unique opportunity established to give high school students interested in the profession of Athletic Training an opportunity to attend the National Athletic Trainer's Associations Annual Convention. Attendees will take part in an exciting and educational experience, in which they will be given the opportunity to network with professional athletic trainers, learn about career options and opportunities, review current educational information and receive an overview on current athletic training research. Career Day attendees will also be given a first hand opportunity to test and view current athletic training products as they visit over 200 vendors in the exhibit hall as well as have the opportunity to listen to the annual key note speaker. Please contact Elicia Leal at eleal@mckinneyisd.net if you would like further information regarding EDAC Career Day or if you wish to participate in the activity.
